Well the crazy and long week that we call the SCCA Runoffs is officially a wrap and we came away with a second place finish! With all of the adversity the team and I faced, we ended up only one position shy from being National Champions. If it was not going to be me, I could not ask for a more deserving person to take the crown. Congratulations to not only one of my best friends but some that is also like a little brother to me, Preston Pardus for becoming the 2017 Spec Miata National Champion!
As for our week, we only had one test day before the four long days of qualifying. After day one, we were not very comfortable with the car nor the currently tune that was on it. My dad, Luke from BSI Racing, Mike Rossini, and I worked day in and day out to get the car to where we wanted it after two days of subpar qualifying. On our 3rd day of qualifying, we thought our luck had changed, getting up to 3rd after Q3….until an off technicality (something that over half of the SM field has and is not a performance advantage) in the rules got our session tossed. We were shook up, but kept our heads up high. Having to start 21st for Q4, I never got a clean lap, but was able to salvage a 10th place starting spot. Not what we wanted, but we had to work with it.

Coming into the race, I knew we needed a clean start (which was going to be tough with a 72 car field) and we needed to make moves quick. Fortunately, I was able to make both happen. After making it clean through turn 1, I went on a charge, getting up to 4th by the end of lap 1. By lap 5, I was leading the biggest race of the year. This race was turning out to be one of the most fun and exciting races of my career, with the most competitive fields I have ever raced in. I led more than half of the race (10 of 19 laps) but came just shy of the win on the last lap. I am extremely proud of what my team and I accomplished this week and cannot wait to use this motivation to keep pushing forward!
None of this would be possible without all of those who have supported me along the way. Thank you to my parents and my sister who have supported me since day one, my girlfriend for keeping me level headed all week and being by my side, BSI Racing Team LLC, and especially Luke Croteau (car chief) for working non-stop with me throughout the week, Mike Rossini of Rossini Racing Products for squeezing every bit of horsepower and torque out of our Mazda Miata, Apex Alignment for the setup advice, Mazda Motorsports for their killer racing programs and ladder systems, Mazda USA for their great road and race cars, Hoosier Racing Tire for one of the best tires in racing, and SCCA Inc. for putting this fabulous event together!
Now back to real like and use my amazing racing experience to sell the best road cars at the best car dealership in the southeast, Classic Mazda!
